John Arthur Lithgow (born October 19, 1945) is an American actor, musician and author. Lithgow has starred in several films and television shows, including The World According to Garp, Terms of Endearment, Footlose and NBC's sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun.
Lithgow also starred as the serial killer Arthur Mitchell in the fourth season of Showtime's Dexter, for which he won Golden Globe and Emmy awards.
